The Bridge House by John Johansen (1958)

When you think of a house spanning a river or creek the first one that pops into your head is probably FLW’s Falling Water. However there are other architects who had a similar vision, both then and now. One of my favorites is Johansen’s Bridge House. Johansen was one of the Harvard 5 and this house is probably his most well known residential project, and it is easy to see why. On the interior of the house the three barrel vaults are covered with gold leafing which reflects the water from the creek below.
